At Least I Admit It!

For about a year I belonged to one of the social networking sites.  I had lots of friends, blogged regularly about things similar to my blog here, and generally looked at the activity grown people engaged in with wonder and amazement.  I developed a semi-famous (in social networking terms) persona of being blunt, honest, cranky, and unafraid.  This created a polarization that was always entertaining.  The recurring theme I find in these sites is the lack of people exercising self control and their complete loss of honest self image.  Of course, this makes sense since so many of them have sad lonely lives and need the internet to give them a sense of purpose and self worth.

They post video's of themselves, as if people are tuning in every day to see what new "pearls" of wisdom they are sharing.  They post little comments on their 100 or so "close" friends pages.  In short, they expend vast amounts of energy on something that in all likelihood is really a meaningless activity in the great scheme of things.  Often I think, "what if they put their energy into truely meaningful activities?"  You know, volunteer at a hospital, be a Big Brother, be a foster parent, or something similar in which they enriched other's lives and lightened someone's load?

Don't get me wrong, if blogging and your "page" is part of your entertainment or escape from a busy productive life, I applaud you.  Unfortunately, many I've met on the internet have carved out their lives and defined themselves by their "profile".  Let's face it folks, by anyone's standards this is pathetic.

The difference between them and me, is that I completely admit that I'm sharper than the average blogger, yet far less pretentious, though it might seem that way.  Just because I have an honest self view doesn't make me pretentious.  It just makes me honest.  I write about the mundane and moronic.  I'm not offering political commentary (yawn) or diet tips.  I'm not interested in those of you who write as a means of self expression or hobby.  I'm talking about the vast number of losers, with a capital  "L".  Those who get what I'm saying, will immediately understand and no doubt think of someone you know who irritates the heck out of you on here.  Yes, THAT's who I'm talking about.

So...don't hate me because I'm honest, or smart, or speak my mind.  My guess is, if you really are upset by this.........well, I wrote this for and about you my friend.....
